Chicago’s Mikva Challenge works with Chicagoland students across hundreds of school landscapes each year to empower tomorrow’s leaders. This year, 67 schools are taking part in the group’s annual Action Civics Showcase, Tuesday at the Chicago Cultural Center. From improving police youth relationships and encouraging LGBTQ awareness in schools, to making schools more eco friendly and addressing bullying in and outside of the classrooms, most students have spent the school year working to address an issue they feel passionate about. Later today, students will present their projects to community leaders and public officials all in the name of change. We’re joined by Collin’s Academy 9th-grader Demajaie Walton and his teacher Katie Halberg. We will also hear from Mikva Challenge Ally Award recipient Jadine Chou. (Flickr/sidewalk flying)
