Divisions Over Dividing Chicago’s Lakefront Path

Chicago’s Lakefront trail will be divided into separate paths for pedestrians and cyclists by the end of the year. Construction is currently underway. Transportation and pedestrian advocates have praised the plan, but some residents of Uptown are unhappy with the design for the portion between Montrose and Foster avenues on the North Side. They say the proposed path will be more dangerous, not less so. They also say the city and the firm reshaping the trail did not consult community members enough in the lead-up to the project.

Morning Shift talks with Chicago Tribune transportation reporter Mary Wisniewski about the lakefront path and growing concerns over its final form.
