Do immigrants threaten American customs and beliefs?

A recent poll shows a whopping 78 percent of Americans believe undocumented immigrants are a threat to "traditional" American beliefs and customs, while 49 percent believe immigrants in general are a threat to those beliefs and customs. Why the fears? And what are these "traditional" American beliefs and customs anyway?
