It was easy for the wrecking balls to take down the Cabrini Green high rises. But the transition for residents was anything but easy. They were re-located across the city, away from their neighbors and into mixed-income row houses where some felt unwelcome or disconnected from their community. Filmmaker Ronit Bezalel has spent two decades following folks as they were moved out of Cabrini Green. She also tracked the history of the policies that relocated them and the relationships former Cabrini residents formed and lost along the way. The result is the documentary “70 Acres in Chicago: Cabrini Green,” which has its world premiere Sunday at the Gene Siskel Film Center’s Black Harvest Film Festival.
