Longtime Chicago Ald. Ed Burke pleaded not guilty Tuesday in federal court on charges alleging he abused his power at City Hall for personal gain.

Burke was forced to resign as chairman of the City Council’s Finance Committee after he was charged with attempted extortion in early January. Prosecutors last week indicted the embattled alderman with 14 counts of racketeering, attempted extortion and bribery.
