Elderly poverty

A veteran in North Carolina recently called 911 after he returned home from the hospital, and found he had nothing to eat, and no way to get to the store. Calling 911 for help isn’t uncommon among some of our elderly. Isolation and poverty are serious issues. According to U.S. Census data, nearly 30 percent of our senior citizens live alone, and that number jumps to almost 50 percent by age 85. We hear from experts on aging about what issues are facing our elderly, and how to solve them. (Flickr/kevin dooley)
