Engineers of the future

President George Washington was eulogized as “first in war, first in peace, and first in the hearts of his countrymen”. Many also consider him the nation’s first engineer. So it’s only fitting that National Engineers Week falls during the week of Washington’s February 22 birthday. With the 2015 commemoration just behind us, we check in with the President of the National Academy of Engineering for his thoughts on the future of the field in the U.S., efforts to get more women and minorities interested in engineering and the relationship between technology and social change.
