Eve Ewing’s ‘Electric Arches’ Explores Race, Identity In Chicago

Chicago sociologist, essayist and poet Eve Ewing says her goal is to shape public conversations to help build a more just society. She’s worked as an educator and is currently a postdoctoral scholar at the University of Chicago where she studies how race and class impact education policy. Her new book Electric Arches is an Afrofuturist work of poetry, short stories and visual art that explores racial identity, social justice and black girlhood in Chicago through a mix of genres like realism, surrealism and science fiction.

Morning Shift talks to Ewing about Electric Arches and her work on urban policy and social inequality.
