Fair housing campaign in the suburbs

Tuesday is the deadline for communities in need of more affordable housing to submit plans on how to increase those options for residents. According to the housing advocacy group Open Communities, 68 Chicago suburbs don’t offer enough affordable housing. While some suburbs have submitted their plans, other communities have no plans to even put one out there. Gail Schechter of Open Communities, which advocates for more affordable housing in the northern suburbs, details why this deadline exists, and why she thinks it’s important to the economy of these areas to grow these options.
