Traditional South Indian Carnatic Music and Hindustani sounds intersect with flamenco, jazz and rock when the Indian band Arka team up with Grammy winning percussionist Vikku Vinayakram. Vinayakram plays an instrument called the Ghatam, a clay pot. He’s a master at the instrument and has played with Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart as well as guitarist John Mclaughlin in that musician’s 1970’s band, Shakti. Akra and Vinayakram play a show Saturday at the Hindu Temple of Greater Chicago and Sunday at Martyr’s as part of the Eye on India arts fest. But first, they join us.
