Soul legend Aretha Franklin passed away Thursday at the age of 76. She was one of the most powerful and respected voices in American music.

Morning Shift talks with longtime Ebony editor Lynn Norment. She interviewed Franklin for a cover story for the magazine in the late nineties.

Interestingly, Norment accompanied the Queen of Soul on a Christmas shopping trip in Chicago where she got to know the star’s personality and idiosyncrasies up close.
