Fraternity bans hazing but some say practice will still continue
The American fraternity Sigma Alpha Epsilon says it will now ban pledging from its initiation process. Often the pledging process includes hazing practices such as excessive alcohol consumption and sleep deprivation. After a Bloomberg investigation revealed that the most fraternity-related deaths had happened at SAE, they made the move to ban the practice. We talk with Brandon E. Weghorst of Sigma Alpha Epsilon about what the future holds for the fraternity, and Dr. Nicholas Syrett about the history of hazing practices.
