Voters in countries across Europe went to the polls over a four-day period, electing representatives for the EU Parliament. It’s an important election because the Parliament’s powers have been broadened over the past several years. In France, it looks like the far-right National Front has won big. Closer to home, a young Chicago woman was running in another French election. Eve Zukerman is a student at the University of Chicago. She ran for the office of consular counselor and she’d be part of the electoral college for the Assembly of French Citizens Abroad-a body that advises the government on a wide range of issues affecting French nationals living around the globe.
