On Monday, Amtrak President and CEO Joseph Boardman announced that he’s creating a committee of transportation leaders to address the rail traffic congestion here in Chicago. The announcement came after Amtrak reported it’s seen a four percent decline in Illinois ridership due to delays. Routes like the one from Chicago to Cleveland experience frequent delays of four hours or more on a daily basis. The $3.2 billion program will develop solutions to end freight rail blockage and modernize the city’s railing system, in hopes to overall improve Amtrak’s on-time performance.
