As they often do in presidential elections, rural and urban America voted in very different ways on November 8. Given that polls forecast a Hillary Clinton win, the Trump victory left many so-called “coastal elites” in shock that Americans outside of cities would elect a man who has made racist and sexist comments. And the other America was shocked by that shock.

In short, the two Americas are not on the same page.
