Over the 4th of July weekend, Deadheads from around the globe will descend on Chicago for the band’s 50th anniversary concerts. The shows are being billed as the last time the remaining members of the group will come together, and fans are hoping to grab a piece of the magic the band created before the death of Jerry Garcia in 1995. But if they want an actual piece of Dead history, they ought to go online this weekend. Donley Auctions in Union, IL, is hosting a massive Grateful Dead memorabilia auction that includes everything from original hand-written lyrics and concert posters to the actual table and chairs the band sat around in their San Rafael headquarters. Grateful Dead historian and long-time publicist Dennis McNally joins us to talk about the auction, and his feelings about the upcoming concerts.(Flickr/Franco Folini)
