President Donald Trump insists that Democrats are to blame for his administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy separating immigrant families at the U.S.-Mexico border. He signed an executive order Wednesday shortly after this interview and said families would instead be detained together.

His Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen say the government is fully enforcing laws and that Congress has to fix immigration “loopholes” to stop the government from separating young children from their parents.

Family separation has drawn sharp criticism from both Democrats and Republicans, including all four living former first ladies. Faith leaders like Pope Francis and organizations from United Way Worldwide to Girl Scouts of the USA have also spoken up.
