Nearly 1700 buildings were torn down in Englewood and West Englewood since 2008, but a new investigation by the Chicago Sun-Times found that the demolitions have not led to development in the neighborhood. 

Only one neighborhood — West Town — had more tear downs during that period, but in West Town, new buildings are going up in their place. In Englewood, vacant lots stay vacant. 

Morning Shift discusses what’s being done and what could be done to spur economic growth in Greater Englewood, an area hit hard by the housing crisis of the last decade that is also dealing with the legacy of decades of economic disinvestment.
