China filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization Monday over President Trump’s latest salvo in the growing trade war between the two superpowers.

China was responding to a list of thousands of Chinese goods worth $200 billion that could face 10 percent tariffs that the Trump administration released on July 10.

Experts say the trade war officially started on July 6 when the United States imposed tariffs on Chinese goods worth $34 billion. Beijing immediately responded with its own tariffs on American goods of equal value.

The retaliatory tariffs that China enacted that day targeted cars and major agricultural goods including soybeans, a major Illinois export.

At the time, China’s Commerce Ministry warned that China would have to respond with “necessary countermeasures” without providing details, according to CNN.
