How Young Men Of Color Benefit From Diverse Teaching Staff
Six students from the University of Illinois at Chicago will participate in the “Call Me MISTER” program this fall prepares black and Latino men to become elementary teachers in the Chicago Public Schools system.
Experts estimate that only two percent of teachers in American public schools are black men, which means that the majority of male students of color never had a chance to learn from someone who looked like them.
