In the wake of the mass school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut, Sen. Dick Durbin joined other politicians including Mayor Rahm Emanuel in calls to ban assault weapons. Illinois used to be the only state to prohibit concealed weapons, but a federal appeals court last week struck down the ban, giving Springfield until early next year to craft a new gun law. The court’s decision marked a victory for the state’s gun rights supporters. State Rep. Mike Bost is one of those supporters and says stricter gun laws are not the answer. Chicago Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy supports the Mayor’s call and explains what gun control measures he thinks the city needs.
