Residents on Chicago’s Southeast Side have been protesting the use of petcoke by companies in the area. They claim the pollution in the air and water is creating long-lasting effects on their health. Illinois’ Senior Senator Dick Durbin and Congresswoman Robin Kelly toured the area Monday to understand more about the issue. WBEZ’s Michael Puente was there, too, and he tells us what he heard.
