There are 30 public rest areas — and 11 welcome centers — on highways across Illinois. But many of them are over 30 years old. IDOT has recently released a survey to the public asking people how they would update them or if there are certain stops we can do without.
The Chicago Tribune’s Mary Wisniewski has written about rest stops and the state’s look into modernization. We talk to Mary and ask you what you’d like to see in the rest areas of the future.
