When the state’s annual school report card came out Friday, it presented plenty of data about how every school in Illinois are based on a number of metrics. One thing it didn’t say explicitly, but is all over the report and vital to the conversation, is that more children than ever are living in poverty. And with poverty, comes achievement gaps. WBEZ’s Linda Lutton discusses how the state has finally hit a threshold, and what it means for those struggling on the bottom financially and educationally.
