In the mid 80’s, famed clarinetist Richard Stoltzman commissioned composer Steve Reich to write something for him. Reich produced New York Counterpoint, a complex piece in three movements for 11 clarinets that contains elements both thoroughly modern and from out of the past. Chicago clarinetist James Falzone greatly admired both Stoltzman and the piece for many years, and finally decided to take on the challenge of recording his own version.
