A record number of children are crossing the border from Central America, seeking asylum from countries rife with gangs and rampant violence. Congress and the Obama administration are at odds on how to handle these minors detained at the border, and advocates claim they are being deported faster than they should be under the law. Local immigration advocates are gathering Thursday to call for a slowdown of the legal process, and to ask that the administration take steps to keep immigrant families together.
