Local Organizations Rally For Puerto Rico In Wake Of Hurricanes Irma, Maria
In the wake of the one-two punches of Hurricanes Irma and Maria, Puerto Rico faces massive devastation, from destroyed homes and infrastructure, to a damaged power grid and downed cell phone towers. Nearly 3.5 million Americans are affected, and mayors from across Puerto Rico are calling for help from the U.S. government to provide emergency aid and to help with rebuilding efforts. While that aid has yet to arrive, local organizations in Chicago are rallying to send much-needed funds and supplies to Puerto Rico.
Morning Shift talks to Cristina Pacione-Zayas, co-chair of the umbrella organization Puerto Rican Agenda, and Carlos Tortolero, president of the National Museum of Mexican Art in Pilsen, about relief efforts the organizations are leading to help survivors in Puerto Rico.
