Over the last few years, drummer Makaya McCraven has been one of the most in-demand cats on Chicago’s jazz and improvised music scene. But beyond lending his talents to other people’s gigs and albums, McCraven has created spaces and places for other musicians to play and work out their material. His weekly residency at The Bedford became one of the city’s hot spots for musical collaboration. His new album, In The Moment, captures the energy of The Bedford. But not content to merely release live recordings, McCraven took the taped material and cut, copied, pasted, overdubbed, and made something completely new and fresh. He joins Morning Shift ahead of his album release show at Door No.3.
