On Wednesday night at the Republican National Convention, Indiana Governor Mike Pence kicked off his speech with a phrase he’s repeated many times over the years: “I’m a Christian, a conservative and a Republican, in that order.” Donald Trump’s running mate was also self-deprecating. 

He poked fun at himself for being virtually unknown on the national stage. So, what message did Mike Pence send on Wednesday night? And was it a success?
