One of the most difficult things to do for any parent is talk to our kids about traumatic events: whether it’s a death in the family, a divorce or a major news event like last week’s mass shooting at the community college in Oregon. Sometimes we don’t know where to start, what to say and how to follow up on the conversation. We tackle the issue today with a child and adolescent psychiatrist and take listeners’ calls. Then, sports contributor Cheryl Raye Stout talks with Cubs ace pitcher Jake Arrieta about his remarkable season — and about Wednesday’s big wild-card game.
