In August, The Triibe launched the second a five-part series called “Out West” that explores the ways black people on the city’s West Side have been neglected.

Journalist Tiffany Walden says the issue dates back to the 1968 riots after the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. and continues today with the planned construction of a $95-million police training academy in West Garfield Park.

Walden joins the Morning Shift to discuss the series, her family’s Mississippi roots and how she connected the dots between Chicago’s West Side and the South.
