New archbishop named for Chicago

The long awaited news from the Vatican regarding Cardinal Francis George’s replacement was revealed this weekend. Bishop Blase Cupich (Blaze SOUP-itch) comes from Spokane Washington. It’s the first major assignment from Pope Francis. Many see the selection of this Bishop as a kind of signal from the Vatican. That the Pope wants church leaders to follow his example of charity and compassion while de-emphasizing cultural war issues including abortion and gay marriage. Photo: Flickr/Frank J.
