New study finds women in STEM fields face sexual harassment

A new study might shed light on the disparity between the number of men and women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics. The study reports that 64 percent of researchers in these fields have experienced sexual harassment, and 20 percent report being sexually assaulted, while conducting fieldwork. One of the study’s co-authors, Professor Julienne Rutherford of University of Illinois at Chicago, tells us what the study means for women in the STEM fields now and in the future.
