NFL wives shine light on abuse

The NFL is under increased scrutiny to address what many deem a domestic violence problem in the league. The allegations intensified after a video surfaced of former Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice knocking out his then fiancee, Janay Rice, in an elevator. The NFL has responded by forming a committee of experts to create policies, including University of Illinois-Chicago’s Beth Richie. And, now more ex-wives and girlfriends of players are coming forward with stories of abuse. Washington Post profiled two of these women, and the women claimed the league urged them to keep the abuse quiet when they complained. We talk with the article’s co-author Simone Sebastian about what she learned from these women. Photo: Flickr/czhu336
