A recent analysis by Crain’s Chicago Business found that hospitals are increasingly placing patients under observation because Medicare is cracking down on costly inpatient admissions. Hospitals get reimbursed less for these cases compared to inpatient cases, but the patients could end up shouldering higher costs. Health care reporter Kristen Schorsch has more on the story.
