A recent USA Today investigation shows that there’s a huge backlog of rape kits across the country. The number is staggering — at least 70,000 kits that have been submitted have yet to be processed according to the paper. It turns out that Illinois is better-than-average when it comes to processing rape kits, but advocates say it can still take up to a year for the results to come back.
