Illinois is now one of more than a dozen states with a “red-flag” law in place that allows police to temporarily confiscate guns from people judged in court to be dangerous.

Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the Firearms Restraining Order Act Tuesday. The law authorizes family members or law enforcement to seek an order of protection from those who pose “an immediate and present danger” to themselves or to others.

Rauner also extended the 72-hour gun-purchase waiting period to all firearms but said he would veto a measure adding more oversight to gun stores, according to the Chicago Tribune.
