Prince Rogers Nelson died at his Paisley Park studio outside Minneapolis Thursday morning at the age of 57. The world knew him simply as Prince. The pop music sensation released dozens over albums and melded diverse musical genres from R&B to rock to funk into a style that was all his own. Sound Opinions co-host Greg Kot joins Morning Shift to talk about the man and his music. We also talk to Sound Opinions co-host Jim DeRogatis was a music journalist in Minneapolis in the early 1990s. It was during those years that he got to sit down for a tete-a-tete with the so-called Purple One. DeRogatis talks about that interview, the “funky, dirty” after-hours shows he played in Chicago over the years and why Prince will continue to influence new generations of musicians for decades to come.
