After WBEZ broke the story of Puerto Rican heroin addicts being sent to Chicago under sometimes false pretenses of treatment, officials started to ask for answers on why this was happening. One of those officials is State Senator William Delgado whose 2nd District includes areas where many of these addicts end up. Sen. Delgado on Wednesday announced a partnership between Illinois’ substance abuse agency and their Puerto Rico’s counterpart. We talk with Delgado about what this means for the addicts here, and ask him why Puerto Rican Governor Alejandro García Padilla’s office has refused to make the governor available for an interview with WBEZ.
