Series dives into connections between poverty and academic achievement

Poverty is deepening in Illinois schools. More than half of all public schoolchildren in the state are considered low-income. The number of low-income students in a school can have a tremendous impact on how that school scores on state standardized tests. That is very clear from a new analysis by WBEZ and Daily Herald. The paper is running a four-day series on Poverty and School Achievement. Melissa Silverberg is an education reporter at the paper. WBEZ’s Linda Lutton collaborated on the series.
