Services for Walter 'King' Fleming take place Monday
Walter “King” Fleming started swinging with the band at McKinley High on Chicago’s South East side back in the late 30s. He led a variety of groups for nearly four decades, and became known for his piano playing, his arranging skills and his ability to accompany vocalists. Even in his mid-70s, Fleming was recording for Southport Records. He passed away April 1 at 91, and a memorial service is set for Monday. Musician Joanie Pallato joins us to talk about “King’s” life, music and Monday’s celebration of both.
