After conducting a survey of colleges and universities in Cook County, the Sheriff found there was a strong desire among college and universities to enhance policies and practices in regards to sexual assault. The survey also revealed a lack of sexual assault reporting, indicating that victims may not be comfortable coming forward. In response, the Sheriff’s Office began to offer training for campus first responders to help colleges improves their response to these types of crimes and improve the campus atmosphere toward sexual assault. More than 50 people attended each of the previous training sessions. The first was held in May at Triton Community College in River Grove. The second was held last month at Northwestern University.
