Morning Shift


It’s more than Mother Nature at play when snow blankets the streets and makes for treacherous’s Papa Politics too! Back in 1979, Chicago experienced its fourth worst blizzard on record. This year’s is the 5th. Many political watchers say it cost then Mayor Michael Bilandic re-election when he fell to Jane Byrne. Some say it was the unplowed streets and the jumbled information that push voters away from Bilandic and toward Jane Byrne. Andy Shaw was a political reporter and is now President and CEO of Better Government Association. He’s here to gives us a history lesson on what was happening then.
