Hash tags #icantbreathe and #blacklivesmatter have been central spots for social media responses to the unrest stemming from the Michael Brown and Eric Garner shootings. Activists are using Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr to gather ideas and disseminate information about protests, but also to broadcast to followers in other cities about activities where they live.
