Wednesday the City of Chicago took a step toward saving hundreds of endangered affordable housing units in single-room occupancy and residential hotels. The proposed — supported by the mayor — makes it harder for owners of those buildings to convert, demolish or sell their buildings for projects that have less than 20 percent affordable units.
