It’s been about 700 days without a state budget, and after several days of special session, it looks like state lawmakers are no closer to finalizing a budget, with only days to go until the final deadline on June 30. And without a budget, things will start falling apart… and in quick succession. The Illinois Department of Transportation says that without a financial plan in place, road construction and infrastructure projects will completely halt. The state’s Powerball and Megamillions are also planning on leaving Illinois if a budget is not passed by the Friday deadline. Sen. Tammy Duckworth warned that without a state budget soon, federal aid to Illinois would likely be at risk. To catch us up on all the goings-on in Springfield is WBEZ’s state politics reporter Tony Arnold.
