According to the CDC, one in five women are raped, and 19 percent of these women experienced assault after entering college. Vice President Joe Biden has been vocal about the need for more awareness about sexual assault on college campuses. This comes on the heels of the White House creating a new task force to bring more attention to the issue. Why do rates continue to rise, and what role should universities play in curbing the violence? We talk with Diana Newton of Porchlight Counseling which exclusively counsels college-age students, and Dana Bolger of Know Your IX, an organization dedicated to educating co-eds about their rights.
