In a collaboration with The Chicago Reporter’s Angela Caputo, WBEZ’s Natalie Moore uncovered deadbeat landlords receiving subsidies-used to help low-income Chicago families rent- from the Chicago Housing Authority even though banks had foreclosed on their property. Over the last five years, banks have reclaimed around 2,400 properties, yet inspection data from the CHA suggests that many of the properties were on the slide during the year before the banks took them back.
