The Changing Nature and Power of Language

God-DOH or GOD-doh? According to playwright Samuel Beckett, the correct pronunciation was actually GOD-DOH. But try telling that to folks who are used to the first pronunciation. Our English language has evolved over the years and continues to do so. How do we decide on the correct pronunciations of words? When is it decided that a pronunciation should be altered? Ron OJ Parson, Director of Court Theatre's Waiting for Godot, and writer Charles Harrington Elster help us tackle those questions. Photo: Flickr/Amaury Henderick
