'The Check-Out Line' shows us where we’re shopping-and where we’re not

In the last couple of decades Chicago’s grocery store landscape has shifted in a way that reflects much of the city itself. There’s been huge growth in discount and high end grocers. At the same time the decline of those chains in the middle reflects larger trends in income inequality and the hollowing out of the middle class in the city. WBEZ’s Monica Eng and Natalie Moore are tracking the trends and asking people where they do their daily shopping. They kick off our series, The Check-Out Line, to discuss what they’ve found, and we ask you to tell us where you’re buying your getting your groceries. (Flickr/Matt MacGillivray)
